Unwanted Candy!

This week, we heard back from the orthodontist and were informed we donated 34 pounds of candy! For this donation, we received 34 dollars to use in our classroom. The students solved a number string to figure out the money we earned and collaborated together to create a list of potential items we could buy. After a discussion on budgeting and wants vs. needs, the students decided our money would be best used to purchase soccer pinnies and orange cones for Togetherness time. The soccer pinnies will be used to separate teams, and the orange cones will be used to make boundaries. We have ordered the supplies and we should be ready to use them for Togetherness when we get back from break! Thank you for all of your donations, and thank you I Orthodontics for working with us!

All of the candy second-grade students donated! This candy will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House.

Non-fiction Text Features

Over the past few weeks, our students have been working on identifying non-fiction text features and describing how they help readers learn new information. After identifying all the non-fiction text features, our students have practiced working with the following text features: table of contents, index, glossary, bold words, captions, and headings. The students will use this knowledge they have acquired to design a page in our non-fiction book to teach others about beavers. We will share our work with you once our book is ready to be published!
