Fox Trot!

Our crew spent the morning focusing on health and fitness! We participated in the Fox Trot to raise money for our specials team. We discovered our entire crew ran 595 laps all together! I am so proud of our crew for demonstrating perseverance and contribution! If you would still like to make a donation, pledges are accepted until May 4th. Thank you to our PTO and parents who have shown support for our school!

Celebration of Learning at the Highlands Ranch Mansion

Thank you to all of the families that joined us for our Celebration of Learning at the Highlands Ranch Mansion. Our young historians have been excited all week to share their learning. It is amazing the history they discovered by asking questions, using tools, and examining evidence. Our tour guide booklets will now be available at the mansion for other children to enjoy. I am so proud of the courage each one of the students demonstrated to present their learning.

Revising First Stories

Our young authors began the publishing process! This week, our writers collaborated together to revise their first stories. They spent some time reading their first story to a partner and checking to make sure they have each element of the narrative criteria. Next week, the students will edit each other’s story and create an illustration to match. We will be compiling these first stories into a book. I will make sure to send home a copy of your child’s first story once we are finished!

Book Clubs

Our readers have been constructing meaning as they read using a variety of strategies. This week, we participated in book clubs. Each student had the opportunity to read a text, write his/her thinking, and share his/her thinking in a book club. This collaboration of thoughts helped our readers understand some challenging text! Our readers were able to reach a deeper level of understanding by asking questions, making inferences, and determining the lesson of the text. Ask your child at home what book he/she read and to share a few thoughts he/she had while reading!
